Establishing Professional Contacts and Expanding Resources

Week # 1: Establishing Professional Contacts and Expanding Resources
I have sought to establish professional contacts with two early childhood professionals from around the world in Africa and Asia respectively from the Global Alliance; however, I have not received any answer from my contacts yet. I know that this may take a little time and am looking forward to hear from my contacts sometime this week.
As I seek to expand my resources, I have chosen to research the www.naeyc.org as well as the (UNESCO).  “UNESCO advocates for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programs that attend to health, nutrition, security and learning and which provide for children’s holistic development.” I have decided to forge relationships with these organizations to understand more about their contributions to early childhood development, standards that are important for me to learn about and how social development, gender equity and poverty reduction can impact positively or negatively on child development. I love what these two organizations are doing and continue to do in early childhood development. I do hope that I will be able to benefit significantly from professional development from these organizations.

  1. I am also having problems with people responding to my emails as well. Luckily, I recieved one back from France late last night, so I will be pursuing that email here shortly. I think this is a wonderful assignment and I look forward to hearing what early childhood professionals think about their education systems in their countries. It will be interesting to hear what the differences and similarities are. As early childhood education professionals this will allow us to expand our resources outside of what we already know and maybe adapt some of those practices into our classrooms.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I too am looking forward to getting answers from my e-mails.This assignment will open up greater insights into what is happening in the early childhood field in other parts of the world. I am happy that you received an answer from France. We are all looking forward to hear what you have learned. It will be interesting to see how we can adapt and expand our practices via these new resources.

  3. Hi Sharon,

I wish you the best of luck in seeking out professionals in our field. I have made two contacts but am awaiting a third from friends that teach in Poland. If they contact me back I will be sure to let you know and you could use them as a reference in case yours don't work out. The NAEYC is a wonderful organization with very helpful and interesting articles in their publications that can help us to further our learning of early childhood education. By becoming a member you also receive many benefits, as well as a tuition reduction here at Walden! I look forward to continuing to learn and grow professionally with you throughout this course!
